Okay…so…

First of all, the murders of the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists and writers were terrible and wrong. Period. Without condition. What happened was an attack on free speech…and I feel that…more than that…they died…those artists and creators died…I don’t really know how to express what I mean…I know that there’s a bigger picture. There is symbolism in the attack for the terrorists and for the world…the victims…the meaning of their lives and deaths in terms of freedom and ideals but…to me…I feel very small but for me, it ultimately comes down to…it’s just so sad that those people are dead…

I feel a general pressure to view what happened in black and white when, like most things in life, there’s grey. Life isn’t simple. Death…is also rarely as simple as people would like…so…not in spite of my above sentiments but in addition to my blanket sadness at this tragedy, I feel…well, these writers have expressed a bit more coherently how complicated I feel…
